Background and project purpose

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Areas in the Mediterranean countries that have a rural character and are remote from the sea have no possibility for the development of tourism and the economy is mainly based on agriculture that nowadays does not bring economic progress. Rural areas in the Mediterranean are under major demographic changes, especially in area of population and emigration. In order to avoid the negative consequences of these areas the support of local representatives is needed.

Some European regions have already implemented an experimental and innovative strategies (policies) that want to:

  • Adopt and maintain a new population (that brings new skills, jobs, economic development);
  • Promote local products (use of tangible and intangible products).

To continue the implementation of these policies is necessary to take advantage of and to share the experiences and good practices of participants of previous MED programme projects.

PROJECT PURPOSE:

The main purpose of the project is to capitalize the experience of the project partners and to use methods and best practices of past MED projects such as:

  • Methodological support to local actors and national strategies.
  • Help in setting up new economic activities and innovation activities that create jobs and promote local products and services.
  • Creating opportunities for meetings between stakeholders dealing with similar themes.
  • Prepare the basic principles and the principles underlying the foundation for future association responsible for promoting policies to attract / migration of people on rural areas.

PROJECT AIMS:

  • Facilitate access of local actors to methodological sources of the immigration policies to attract people in rural areas.
  • Creating opportunities to meet players in this field and the exchange of good practices (seven examples of good practice, resulting in nine projects).
  • Collective development of methods and practices that enable the growth and development of local development policies on the promotion of local products and services and promote immigration.
  • Innovative and experimental tools that promote local products and services and the integration of new immigrants based on ICT tools.
  • Prepare the basic principles and observation, written in the common European document, as based association responsible for promoting immigration policies and attracting people to the rural areas.

PROJECT MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Preparation of basic principles and the principles of the European document on policies to encourage migration to rural areas;
  • Preparation of action plans;
  • Exchange of experience and good practices;
  • Information and dissemination.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • To create a link that will promote immigration policies in rural areas;
  • Identify the main actors of these policies;
  • Assess what are the best practices and conduct a feasibility study of these practices;
  • Preparation of methodological guide;
  • Document of the establishing of European association that deals with the promotion of immigration policies in rural areas.
