ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Many regions and cities of the Mediterranean, own important industrial sites, which Industrial tourism activities, could be used, to enhance these areas, namely manufacturing industrial areas, can attract new tourists, by integrating cultural and historical elements, and advanced technologies, can enhance the experience and attract visitors.
SMITour is a study project that aims to:
- harness transnational cooperation, to explore the social and economic potential of the smart tourism industry.
- explore SMIT (Smart Industrial Tourism) as a sustainable economic activity, that can benefit tourism operators, SMEs, industry, cultural and creative industries, R&D centres, higher education institutions and technology providers, as well as local communities
- set up transnational working groups involving local stakeholders, to explore industrial tourism, and related applications of advanced technologies
- define common Strategies and Action Plans for the development of smart industrial tourism, in the Mediterranean regions,
- diversifying (modifying and complementing) the economy and the tourism sector, with a view, to reducing overtourism and seasonality, stimulating social and economic growth, supporting technological innovation (Smart Industrial Tourism)
