Project purpose

Upside project aims to create economic and social benefits through user-driven innovative digital, solutions-oriented ecosystems. The project aims to promote the cooperation development and synergies between researches, innovation activities of enterprises, urban development policy and open innovation ecosystems that are close to the interests and needs of cities and their inhabitants and the economy that can bridge the difference between short-term development priorities of the city and long-term technological research and experiments.

PROJECT AIMS:

The aim of the UPSIDE project is to promote identification and development of user-driven innovative solutions to the digital-oriented ecosystems.

The pilot environment in each partner region will contribute to the emergence of several functional innovation platform / ecosystem to accelerate the development of European markets involved in the field of innovative digital products and services on the latter's strategic thematic areas:

  • Health, including a supportive environment for independent living;
  • New solutions of public transport (Intelligent Transport Systems) / Intelligent mobility;
  • Public services (e-government);
  • Energy (energy-independent city).


THE MAIN PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

  • Project Management;
  • Communication and dissemination;
  • Analysis and comparisons;
  • Definition of action plans;
  • Measures for implementation;
  • International cooperation strategy;
  • Mentoring (E-Institute + MOM):
    • Creation of new research-oriented structures of SMART CITY Maribor;
    • Identifying regions / partners and priorities for mentoring activities;
    • The concept of mentoring activities;
    • Mentoring in Central European and Mediterranean area;
    • Mentoring in the Baltic region.


ADDED VALUE OF THE PROJECT:

The Digital Agenda for Europe is one of the seven flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 Strategy. Digital Agenda in particular stresses the need to provide the digital technology to Europeans for better quality of life, for example: improvements in health care, transportation, media, services, etc. Within these areas the project UPSIDE will contribute in the following areas:

  • ICT for the Environment;
  • Sustainable healthcare and ICT support for a dignified and independent life;
  • E-government;
  • Intelligent transport systems for efficient public transport and better mobility.
